Cavell Stanley
July 10, 1950 – July 6, 2017
Retired civil servant, MCP and Department of Health. 39 years of service.
Cavell went to her heavenly home after a valiant battle with ALS. Her dignity and grace always present. Cavell Stanley (nee Bussey) aged 66. Leaving behind to celebrate her life is her loving and dedicated husband of 45 years Ashton; her son Curtis and daughter-in-law Heather; her cherished grandchildren: Peyton and Paul.
Also left with memories to cherish, her mother Julia Bussey (Harold, deceased); her sisters: Pauline Puddicome (Bill, deceased) and Lorraine Bussey; brothers: Bert (Dianne) Ottawa, Ontario, Harold (Sharon), Len (Gail) and Eric (Beverly). Ashton’s family; brother-in-law Richard Stanley (Ruth); sisters-in-law: Jane Howell (Bob), Joyce Wells (Will, deceased) and Diane Wells (John) London, Ontario and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Predeceased by her parents-in-law Hazel and Joe Stanley and her special furry friend Sandy.
Those who knew Cavell know that she loved her family deeply. Cavell was the one who brought the family together, the one everyone turned to for support and advice. Cavell was a pillar of strength. Cavell’s smile would always light up a room and the sparkle in her eye would twinkle at the mention of her grandchildren, Peyton and Paul. Cavell loved to spend time with them every chance she got and took pride in their accomplishments.
Cavell loved life and she brightened the lives of all that knew her. Her heart was filled with love, kindness and generosity. She enjoyed working in her garden, sewing, cross stitching, knitting, decorating cakes, travelling, and shopping. She loved holidays especially Christmas, leaving her family with memories and traditions to be cherished for a lifetime.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all those who have supported us during this time. A special thank you to her sister Pauline Puddicome, sister in law Gail Bussey, sister-in-law and brother- in-law Jane and Bob Howell, brothers Eric and Harold, nieces Nancy Hodder, Petrina Tibbo, Melissa Sheppard, Erica Bussey, Kim Stanley, cousins Shelly Griffin, Ronnie Bussey, friends Brenda Backman, Vera-Lynn and Gerry Penney, Paul Penney, Jill Kavanagh, Debbie Guest and Paula Collingwood. For the care provided by the staff at the Miller Center Palliative care (Dr Barnes), PT (Joanne Reid and Gillian Hand), OT (Sarah Burt), Neurology (Dr Goodridge, Denise Williams, Dr Stefanelli), Community Nurse (Penny Bliznakova), Speech Pathologist (Raylene Rice) and the ALS Society (Cheryl Power).
Above all we give thanks for the life of a woman we are proud to be able to call our wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.
Her new journey will take her to a wonderful place where she will once again be doing the things she loved so much. A place where laughter and a feeling of eternal peace are guaranteed.
Celebration of life to be held at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Saturday, July 8th and Sunday, July 9th from 2pm-9pm. Funeral service will take place on Monday, July 10th at 11am from George Street United Church, interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
