Beatrice Mary Allen – 1922 – 2017

1922 – 2017
Obituary for Beatrice Mary Allen
Peacefully in her sleep, at her home on Sunday morning, October 1, 2017 at the age of 95.
Bea is survived by her nephew Al Sansom (Karen), great niece Erin Barrington (Jason), nephew Barry and niece Barbara. Bea was predeceased by her brother Ray and sisters Helen and Marjorie.
Bea was born in Killarney MB on February 8, 1922 to Constance and William Allen. The family later moved to Crystal City where she went to school and Bea eventually moved to Winnipeg.
She originally wanted to be a school teacher and did so in Virden for about a year; however she always said “this is not for me”. After she left teaching she worked for various companies in Winnipeg as a secretary.
Bea’s favorite working years were when she started at Midwest Airlines and then Transair. This eventually led to her last career at Midwest Helicopters where she eventually became an employee shareholder.
After Bea retired she stayed in contact with many of her former co-workers. Bea always said after she retired that she wanted to see “her country” and took a bus tour to the Maritimes which she frequently spoke about after. Bea always remained good friends with her childhood friend, Ruth Corbett from Crystal City. Ruth’s husband was transferred to many places including Japan and various cities in the United States and Bea always made a trip to see Ruth wherever she lived.
For many years Bea was a member of St. Margaret’s Anglican church where she served in various capacities. She was a proud Anglican and would let you know it.
Bea lived in the Courts of St. James for many years where she was involved in the social activities. Unfortunately due to the onset of dementia she had to move to assisted living and eventually to the Lions Manor Supportive Housing where she lived out her remaining years. As a lifelong cat lover, Bea enjoyed the visits from the resident cat at the Lions.
In keeping with Bea’s wishes cremation has taken place. There will be a graveside service held in Crystal City Cemetery, Crystal City MB on Saturday October 14 at 2:30 officiated by Al’s wife Karen.
Al and Karen would like to extend their sincere thanks to Margaret and the 8th floor staff at Lions Manor for the excellent care given to Bea. We would also like to thank Dr. Gooi and the staff at the Westwood Clinic for providing wonderful medical care for Bea.
