HINDS, Barbara (nee Porter)
Barbara Lou Hinds, beloved wife of Norman Hinds of Guelph for over 58 years, passed away peacefully on Saturday December 9, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Guelph surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Barbara’s Husband Norm, Son Patrick, Sister-in-Law Marjorie Muller [Donald] and Best Friend Elza Furzer, kept vigil by her bedside during her brief and courageous battle with cancer. Loving Sister to Mary Kepka [Jerry] – St. Thomas and John Porter [Maria] – Brampton, adored Mother to Patrick Hinds of Guelph, treasured Grandmother to Victoria Dixon [Tim] of Aurora and cherished great-Grandmother to Nellina, Scarlett and Zander. She is survived by many family members. Born in Brampton, Ontario on September 17, 1941, Barbara is predeceased by her siblings, Grant Porter and Joanne Wylie [Gerry], her Mother Edna and Father George Porter. She is now reunited with them in the Kingdom of Heaven. A graduate of the University of Guelph with degrees in Economics and Mathematics, an honored member of Knox Presbyterian Church and Choir, the Order of the Eastern Star and long-time member of Sweet Adeline’s International Women’s singers, and more recently her Ukulele group, the Hummers and Strummers, Barbara loved to sing, entertain and travel. She dedicated her life to the service of others and she will be fondly remembered for her kind heart, infectious smile and generous spirit by all those who had the honour and privilege of knowing her. Barbara was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
Many thanks to Dr. Barry, Dr. Krzyzanowksa, Dr. Yokom and Dr. Hogg of the Oncology Department at Princess Margaret Cancer Research Center in Toronto and their incredible nursing staff, and to the doctors and nurses at St. Joseph’s Health Centre. A Private family interment will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 2:00pm at Marymount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Knox Presbyterian Church, Princess Margaret Cancer Research Center in Toronto and St. Joseph’s Health Center in Guelph will be gratefully accepted.
