Barbara Lordly
1928-2017
Born in Saint John, NB on November 11, 1928. She passed away
on April 6, 2017 in Palliative Care at Kennebec Manor Nursing Home in
Saint John.
She was the daughter of the late Gordon H. and Lillian
(Major) Lordly. She is survived by her brother, Donald G. Lordly and
sister-in-law Betty (Gustavsen) Lordly of Halifax, NS; nephews:
Michael Lordly (Takako) of Toronto, ON, Andrew Lordly (Judith) of
Halifax, NS; Preben Lordly of Toronto, ON, and Matthew Lordly of
Halifax, NS; and two grand-nephews: Kai Lordly of Toronto, ON and
Tuskar Lordly of Halifax, NS.
Barbara was a graduate of Saint John Vocational School and
Home Economic Departments, and gained a BSc in Home Economics from
Penn State University.
Following in the footsteps of her father and Aunt Muriel, she
pursued a career in teaching. She was a popular and highly respected
member of her profession teaching Home Economics at schools in
Dalhousie and Sackville, NB, and then joined the staff of the new
Simonds High School in Saint John, where she taught home economics
until her retirement in 1984. The students of Simonds High School held
a special place in her heart.
She was active with the Canadian Federation of University
Women, New Brunswick Home Economic Teachers Association, New Brunswick
Retired Teachers Association, and the Photography and Travel
Club.
Barbara was a life-long member of St. Luke’s
Anglican Church in Saint John. She had a keen interest in gardening,
canoeing, and kayaking on the Kennebecasis, photography, world travel,
and was an excellent seamstress.
The family wish to thank the staff of the Saint John Regional
Hospital’s Transitional Care Unit and Kennebec Manor for the
their kindness and care during her infirmity.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of
Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint
John (634-7424). Visitation will be Sunday, April 9,
2017 from 2 to 4pm. A memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Canon
David Barrett on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 2pm from St.
Luke’s Anglican Church, 369 Main Street, Saint John.
Following the interment at Fernhill Cemetery, a reception will be held
at Brenan’s Reception Centre. Remembrances to a charity of
the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
