Horie, Barbara Elizabeth [nee Fraser] – It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Barbara Edna Elizabeth Horie (nee Fraser) on Sunday, April 30th, 2017 at her home. Dear wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Barb will forever be remembered for her kindness and home cooking, especially her buttertarts.
Barb was born on May 16, 1938. She is predeceased by her father Gerald and mother Hazel Fraser (nee Harris). She is predeceased by her loving step-mother Dora Fraser (nee Blackmore) who raised her from a young age. She is also predeceased by her husband, John Dennis Horie, who she met and married while working as a hairdresser in Sudbury. Barb grew up in Parry Sound and Burwash and left a piece of her heart in both communities. Barb and Dennis raised their family in North Bay and Haileybury.
Barb is survived by her daughter Lois Horie Perry, son David Horie (Mara), Daughters Susan Schryvers (Randy) and Margaret Horie Iwankewich (Myron). She was a loving grandmother to Tanya, Amy, Adam, Darren, David, Lauren, Samantha, Kathryn and Stefan. She took joy in her great grand children Jayden, Cameron, Teayn and Adrien. She had a special bond with her brother Donald John Fraser (deceased), her sister in law Mary Fraser and nieces Lori and Barbara.
The family would like to thank her many friends who checked in on her. Your friendship meant the world to her. Mom will be forever missed by all who knew her and her kindness will live on through her children and grand-children.
Cremation took place at Lakeview Crematorium, Haileybury. The Horie family will welcome friends at the Buffam Leveille Funeral Home on Saturday, May 6, 2017 beginning at 10:00am. A memorial service will follow at Buffam Leveille Funeral Home Saturday at 12 o’clock. Reverend Judith Visser officiating. Memorial contributions to the charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged. Condolences, contributions and memorial candles may be left at www.buffamleveille.com.
