Barbara Ann (Shay) Mahar
1967-2017
Barbara Ann (Shay) Mahar – 50, of
Cambridge, Kings County, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her
family, Friday, December 8, 2017 at home. Born in Bedford, she was a
daughter of Frank and Reta (Davis) Shay, Berwick. She was a graduate
of Central Kings Rural High School, Cambridge and Miss
Murphy’s Business College, Halifax. She was then employed
for 30 years as the Payroll and Benefits Coordinator at Weston Foods,
Kentville and then worked in the same position at the Kings Regional
Rehabilitation Centre, Waterville. She loved Christmas, spending time
at the beach, and renting cottages every summer for family vacations.
In her earlier years, she enjoyed playing ringette with her sisters.
Barbara was very selfless and always participated in various
activities. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Rick; a
daughter, Shay-Lynn Mahar, Halifax/Cambridge; two sisters, Linda
(Mike) Covert, Calgary; Kelly (Teddy) Mahar, Prospect; a brother,
Allen (Angela) Shay, Somerset; numerous nieces and nephews. There will
be no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a
reception, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2017 in
the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Derek Mumford officiating.
Burial will take place in the Berwick Cemetery. Donations in memory
may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation –
Carey Me Fund (for palliative care in the home); Big Brothers and Big
Sisters or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been
entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
