2017
Obituary Overview
Arnold Bobby (Bob) Ramrattan
February 11, 1937 – November 6, 2017
With his loving family by his side, Bob’s journey on this earth came to an end on November 6, 2017. Bob was a loving husband to Dianne and proud father to Ric (Sue – Alysha & Skot, Angela & Adam) and Alisa (Christine – Michael & Matthew). He was an adoring brother to Merle (Peter), Mona (Ashley), Ray (Sandra), Rudy (Sally), Christine (Ben), Gobin (Hema), Santi, Doolin and Dhano; and proud uncle to his 13 nieces and nephews. Bob had so many wonderful friends in his lifetime, in Canada and in Trinidad.
Bob was born in Jordan Hill, Trinidad and came to Canada in 1960. On that first day he met his “wife to be” at the Java Shop. Not wasting any time, he asked her on a date to a cricket match at the City Park the next day, and the rest was history. Bob and Dianne raised their family in Winnipeg, MB and Kamloops, BC.
Bob’s career spanned over 40 years working for the Province of Manitoba’s department of Education and Northern Affairs, Red River College, and Caribou College. What mattered most to Bob was his family, friends and the promotion of quality education and a meaningful job. He dedicated his own life to learning and educating others, first with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Winnipeg, followed by a Masters of Education from The University of Saskatchewan. He was a pioneer of adult education in Manitoba, bringing “made to fit” training programs to many rural and First Nations communities. His most prized accomplishment was the FRED project (Fund for Rural Economic Development) in the 1960’s and 70’s, where he had the chance to initiate and develop adult education training programs for the benefit of Manitoba’s Interlake region.
In his final hours, Bob said “I had a good life and I will always be with you, in your hearts forever.” A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Bob Ramrattan Memorial Award for Community Service Students at Red River College, C306-2055 Notre Dame Ave R3H 0J9, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
