Anne Gibson
January 17, 1951 – August 31, 2017
Anne Gibson, 66, of Cobourg, Ontario passed away in the early hours of August 31st, 2017. She was the loving lifetime companion of Stanley Feldman and beloved mother of Jason (Amberlee Anthony) and Cameron (Marketa) Gibson. Anne passed away after a long and hard fought battle with cancer. Predeceased by her parents Berkeley and Alice (Carter) Milne, Anne is survived by her adoring grandchildren Jessica and Joshua Gibson, sister Kathie (David) Pike, nieces Brittney and Sarah Pike, and her step-children Liat, Rafael (Consuelo Costin), and Yan Feldman.
Born on January 17, 1951, in Toronto, Ontario, Anne spent her early years in Etobicoke, where she excelled in academics and athletics. Family summers were often spent in Port Dover, resulting in her continued love for the beach and waterside. Anne was an attentive and loving older sister to Kathie, who often regarded Anne more as a second mother than a sister, and remained her unfailing friend throughout her lifetime.
Anne had an artistic soul. Even as a very young child, she was creative, opinionated and passionate about her wardrobe and accessories. As a teenager, she explored folk singing and music after meeting Joni Mitchell at the Mariposa Folk Festival one summer. She adored the ballet and loved to dance.
Anne studied clothing design and illustration and began an early career in the fashion world. Marriage and the birth of her first son, Jason, followed by the tragic loss of her husband led her to a second marriage and the birth of her second son, Cameron. After her divorce, she devoted her life to her children and her career in the art world. Here her keen eye, tremendous ability and tireless energy gained her many faithful clients and lifelong friends. She worked hard to instill strength, compassion and honesty in her children and was so proud of them and their achievements in life.
Soon after turning forty, Anne met the love of her life. Stanley Feldman wooed her with poetry and became her lifelong partner in every aspect. Together they explored the world, collecting beautiful objects and art to create their stunning homes in Toronto and Cobourg, the magical river house, and Braeside – the early Ontario farmhouse that they adored.
Anne had a passion for entertaining and did it with style and grace. Her dinner parties were legendary. She was a daunting potential mother-in-law as she expected only the best, and would test potential applicants by asking them to set the table. Enough said if it wasn’t done properly!
Her retirement was cut short by the appearance of cancer. Thereafter, both she and Stanley turned their prodigious energies to the fearless fight that faced them for so many years. Their two beloved grandchildren, Jessica and Joshua, were the beacons that lit up those dark moments and gave her the strength to carry on.
Anne was loved, adored and admired by her many lifelong and longtime friends and business associates as well as the new friends and neighbours that she and Stanley made in retirement in Cobourg. She will never be forgotten.
We wish to thank the many hospitals, doctors, nurses and staff who battled alongside her and on her behalf over the past three years. She is now at peace. Look up twinkling star…or, as she did believe in ghosts…just possibly touching down in Paris, the City of Light.
Anne had requested that no service or funeral be held. Inlieu of flowers, the familywelcomesdonations in her honortothe followingthree charities, which were very dear to Anne. The family also welcomes any notes that may be added in her honor.
