Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
COLLINS Anne Catherine (nee MacLellan)
Member Divine Infant Parish CWL
Passed away peacefully in her 96th year at the Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital on December 8, 2017 with her daughter by her side after a long life filled with love.
Anne was born in Dunvegan, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia on January 23, 1922 and was the last survivor of the 13 children born to Angus and Mary MacLellan (nee Gillis). She was predeceased in 1993 by her beloved husband Patrick Joseph Collins. She is survived by her dear daughter Vivian, by several cousins and many nieces and nephews and their families, and by her sister-in-law Sr. Eileen Collins CSC. She will especially be remembered by her niece and goddaughter Donnie Dineen and by her “other daughter” Deen Olsen. Anne was proud to be an honourary Grandma Anne to Will, Jon, Christine and little Riley Rose.
Growing up, Anne never thought she would leave her beloved Nova Scotia, but she went on to live in three other provinces (New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario). Together with her husband, she travelled through most of Canada and the USA. In her mid-80s she fulfilled a lifelong dream and began a series of cruises, visiting
Mexico, many Caribbean islands and the Panama Canal.
Anne was a stickler for proper grammar, a crossword and trivia buff, a follower of current events (especially politics), a lover of birds and flowers, and a superb hostess nd cook, known especially for her roast beef dinners. She had a particular empathy for the hungry and homeless and supported organizations serving the disadvantaged. Most of all, Anne was a woman of great faith who strongly believed in, and took great comfort from, the power of prayer.
Many thanks to the doctors and staff at the Ottawa Hospital for giving her seven more years after a stroke
in 2010 and for providing exemplary care at the end of her life, and to the Bruyère Palliative Care Team for their compassionate care in her final hours.
Family and friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home-Orleans 2370 St. Joseph Blvd, Orleans K1C 1G1 613-837-2370 Wednesday December 13, 2017 from 2 pm to 5 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Divine Infant Church, 6658 Bilberry Drive, Orleans on Thursday December 14, 2017 at 11 am. Burial at Hope Cemetery. www.arbormemorial.ca/en/kelly-orleans
