Andrew Paterson Hardie, P. Eng
1944-2016
It is with profound sadness that the family of Andrew
Paterson Hardie announce his passing on 4 December 2016 at the DECH
after a two year battle with cancer.
Andy will be deeply missed by his wife of 49 years, Glenda
(Horne), and his son, Scott, of Fredericton and his daughter, Beth
Simon (Darcy) also of Fredericton. He was a special Grampie to his
grandgirlies, Madeline, Kelsey, and Lucy Simon.
He is also survived by his brothers, Bob (Beverley) of Mt.
Uniacke, NS and John (Margaret) of Burton, NB, sister in-law, Jane
Livingstone (Don Glaspy) of Upper Queensbury, NB, several nieces, a
nephew, and many cousins. He was predeceased by parents, Robert and
Margaret (Paterson) Hardie.
Andy was born 18 November 1944 in Bellshill, Scotland. His
family moved to New Brunswick in 1947. He was a graduate of the
University of New Brunswick with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering in
1967. His engineering career included ADI, NB Power where he was the
Engineer Manager on the Point Lepreau design, Peake Design and lastly,
his own company of A.P. Hardie Engineering Ltd. Andy truly loved his
chosen profession and was a life Member of APENB.
Andy had many interests and talents: stockcar racing,
boating, skiing, snowmobiling, four wheeling, fishing, golfing and
cheering for his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs.
Andy loved spending time with his family and friends. He
never refused a friend who needed help with a repair job. He
especially enjoyed his Friday lunches at the Rogue with his
buddies.
Visitation will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home on
Thursday, December 8, from 12:00 p.m.-2 p.m. followed by a memorial
service in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel at 2:30 p.m. with Reverend
Rose-Hannah Gaskin officiating. A reception will be held at the
funeral home following the service.
Donations in Andy’s memory may be made to Canadian Cancer
Society, Wilmot United Church, Dance Fredericton, Canadian Red Cross
or to a charity of choice.
