Obituary for Amos Charles O’Donnell
Amos Charles O’Donnell, age 81 years, passed away at the Dinsdale Personal Care Home in Brandon, Manitoba on Saturday, December 16, 2017. Amos was born on December 15, 1936 in Carrolls Crossing, New Brunswick to Charles Earl “Keyes” O’Donnell and Hazel Jane (Amos) O’Donnell. From 1955 to 1981, Amos served in the Canadian Army with the Royal Canadian Artillery and was stationed at Camp Utopia, CFB Petawawa and CFB Shilo. He served on several avalanche control missions, Expo 67, the FLQ crisis, fought the Manitoba Wild Fires and was part of the military personnel who participated in the decontamination of the Chalk River NRU. Although he joined the military and left New Brunswick at a very young age his heart belonged in the Miramichi, and he always looked forward to going back and visiting his family and friends. Many thanks to Judy and Coburn Price for making those times so special for him. Amos enjoyed playing shuffleboard, and darts, and always looked forward to his crib games with his good friend Joe McNeil. Sadly missed by his family, he is survived by his wife of nine years Marie; his five children Shelly Helgason (Ron), Sherry Batten (Dale), Rick O’Donnell (Fern), Wendy Hiebert, Karla Kewell (Tim Zimmerman); step-children Elizabeth Lee-Banks (Jeff), Heather Lee (Rick Landry); twelve grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; his brother Richard; special nephew Hughie (Jeanette) Wellwood, as well as numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Norma (Price) O’Donnell, partner Ann Logan, brother Floyd, sisters Flora, Lois and Theoda “Toby” and very special Aunt Margaret Dudley. As per Amos’ wishes a private family service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson Canada, 208-1011 Rosser Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 0L5 or a charity of choice.
