Obituary for Allan James Mino
MINO, ALLAN JAMES Allan was born on August 23, 1951 and died peacefully at home, on December 29, 2017, surrounded by family and in the arms of his loving wife Laurie. Predeceased by his parents William Mino and Betty Mino (nee Kiely). Beloved husband and best friend of Laurie Mino for 45 years, married for 29 years. Loving and proud Dad to Ryan and his wife Michele, Kelly, Heather, and Billy. Devoted and fun-loving grandfather to Hannah. Caring son-in-law to Ron Henderson, Betty Henderson (deceased) and Edie Henderson.
Allan began his career in Toronto where he was a dedicated employee with Sears Canada for 36 years. With a natural “gift of the gab” and “always on point” style he soon won the heart of his “bride to be” and the “love of his life” Laurie. Together they raised 4 children in Toronto. Allan was very proud of his Humberside Collegiate school years and was delighted that his children would all follow in his footsteps. He was a very active Dad in Boy Scouts of Canada and his church. As a family of six, Allan enjoyed cottaging many summers in Baysville, Ontario. As much as he loved city life in Toronto , he loved, equally as much, cottage life with his family: swimming, listening to music by the campfire, and barbecuing. He was just as comfortable in a 3-piece suit with signature “gold pens in pocket” and his favourite cologne as he was in his t-shirt and swim trunks. Eventually he traded in his suits and ties to enjoy the call of Muskoka year-round and moved with Laurie and the kids to Bracebridge in 2006. Allan came to love life in Bracebridge perched on his riding lawn-mower in the summer and the occasional respite from winter with family vacations to Cuba and the like! He loved working at Home Depot and regaling co-workers and customers with his quirky stories and jokes. He will be remembered for always being “the consummate host”, a wonderful friend, father, grandfather, brother-in-law and husband. He had a very big laugh and sense of humour. He loved action movies and cried relentlessly in dog movies. He had a big heart and he shared it with everyone.
The family will always be grateful for the care he received from South Muskoka Hospital in Bracebridge, Paramed, and Doctor Dechert.
Visitation will be held at Reynolds Funeral Home at 1 Mary Street, Bracebridge ON, on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 2-4 & 7-9. The Memorial Service will be held at Reynolds Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 1p.m. immediately followed by a reception at the home of Laurie Mino.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully appreciated to the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation. Messages of condolence can be offered to the family at www.reynoldsfuneral.com
