Obituary for Allan Simpson
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Allan Douglas Simpson at St. Boniface Hospital, in Winnipeg, Manitoba on January 17, 2017, at the young age of 50 after a courageous battle with cancer. Allan is survived by his loving wife Patti, stepson Tanner, his mother Shirley, sister Karen Trudeau (Romeo), nephews Victor (Tara), Jean-Guy (Lana), in-laws George Hynes and Loretta Burke, brother-in-law Brad Burke (Leanne). Allan was predeceased by his father Douglas. Allan will be remembered by his nieces, nephews, close family friends, as well as his RCMP family.
Allan was born on May 18, 1966, in Flin Flon Manitoba and shortly after his family moved to Snow Lake where he grew up and attended Joseph H. Kerr School. Allan grew up enjoying fishing, camping, baseball, golf and hockey. Allan graduated from high school in 1984 and attended Brandon University. From 1989 to 1992 Allan worked at Inco, Thompson, Mb.
Allan joined the RCMP on October 20, 1992, and enrolled in the French training program where he lived in Montreal for the first six months. As he made it through the ranks, Allan portrayed professionalism and integrity. He was truly an icon and a role model in the communities where he lived. He actively sat on committees within the RCMP as well as volunteering with numerous sport organizations and always offered a helping hand to anyone in need.
Allan was a very devoted member of the RCMP for 24 years. Allan was proud to be a Mountie. From 1993 to 2005, Allan was posted in various Saskatchewan Detachments. In 2005, Allan was promoted to Corporal in Porcupine Plain, Sask. In 2006, Allan was promoted to Sergeant at the Canadian Police College where he was the instructor for the Major Case Management Program. In 2008, Allan achieved the goal he had set out since 1992 and joined the Commissioned ranks of the RCMP as the Inspector of Federal Operations Support Branch, at National Headquarters. He then transferred to Professional Ethics from 2013 to 2015 where he was highly involved in the Legislative Reform Initiative (LRI) since the Enhancing Royal Canadian Mounted Police Accountability Act (Bill C-42). In 2016, Allan was promoted to Superintendent of the Administrative Personnel Officer for Winnipeg Headquarters in “D” Division.
He distinguished himself as being a “Member’s Member” who always strived to support other Members and employees. He was seen as a leader, mentor and someone that you could talk to. He was admired for his extensive knowledge, his desire to help others and listening skills. This was demonstrated through his strong dedication to duty and stellar work ethic. The RCMP is a stronger organization because of his contributions.
In 1997, Allan met the love of his life Patricia Simpson in Flin Flon, Manitoba and they were married for 18 years. Allan and Patti enjoyed travelling in the Caribbean, Hawaii and other parts of the world with friends and always made new friends wherever they went. They, especially, loved the winter cruises and Allan always enjoyed shopping regardless where they travelled. Tanner was very fortunate to accompany them on several trips and always reaped the rewards of Al’s shopping ventures. Allan was also an avid golfer and hockey player and enjoyed participating in the many RCMP tournaments.
Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staffs at the Health Sciences Centre GD6 and Manitoba Cancer Care for the excellent care they provided to Allan. Words cannot express how grateful we are for all you have done.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Laurie Marsh Community Hall, Snow Lake, Mb, followed by the Celebration of Life on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 2:00pm Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue Winnipeg, Mb.
