Obituary for Ian Dauphinee
DAUPHINEE, IAN DONALD, BA, BBA, CPA
Crouses Settlement, Nova Scotia, formerly Calgary, Alberta
Passed away on November 13, 2017 at South Shore Regional Hospital surrounded by family following a brief illness. Born in Bridgewater October 6, 1958, Ian was the only son of the late Donald and Georgie (Mills) Dauphinee of Upper LaHave, where he grew up. He was in the last grade twelve class to graduate from Centre Consolidated School. He graduated from Acadia University in 1982 with Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Business Administration degrees. Following graduation he moved to Calgary and worked as an accountant, primarily in the oil and gas industry. His passion was travelling, and he enjoyed many trips throughout Europe, Africa and North America. He was especially proud of having seen so many Wonders of the World. He adored his nieces and nephews and wanted to instill the love of travel in them. One by one he flew them to Calgary and introduced them to all aspects of Alberta geography, culture and cuisine. Ian participated in several full marathons and many other runs and relays. He was also a lover of all things trivia and participated in and won many competitive trivia events, mostly in Calgary. He was a member of Street Cats Rescue Society of Alberta and fostered many homeless cats. He adopted his last cat, Winston, after finding him abandoned in a Costco parking lot. He said many times, “He’s the best thing I ever got at Costco”. He and his beloved Winston moved back to Nova Scotia November 17, 2016 and settled happily in Crouses Settlement. He was fortunate to find employment at the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic as a heritage interpreter. He was passionate about his work there and declared it “the best job I ever had”. He loved the work and the people he worked with, and genuinely enjoyed meeting visitors from around the world. Ian was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Georgie Dauphinee.
He is survived by his sisters Nancy Dauphinee, Crouses Settlement and Susan Joudrey (John), Midville Branch. He is also survived by nieces Megan Atkinson (Sebastian Acosta), Mineville, and Laura Atkinson (Shawn Dopierala), Oakhill, and nephews Brian Atkinson, Dennis Joudrey and Dr. Scott Joudrey, all of Toronto and Geoffrey Smith, Mineville, and great nieces Sophie Acosta, Lucy Acosta, Annabelle Dopierala and Raina Dopierala. as well as his beloved cat Winston.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg where a celebration of Ian’s life will take place from 2 to 4pm on Saturday, November 18, 2017. We encourage everyone who knew Ian to share their memories of him at that time.
