Dawn Ann (Matchett) MacDonald 1949 – 2017
Dawn Ann (Matchett) MacDonald, 68, of Miramichi passed away on Wednesday November 22, 2017 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital surrounded by her family.
Born in Welland, Ontario, she is the daughter of Lydia (Poirier) Matchett and the late Stafford Matchett Sr. Dawn loved to babysitting her grandchildren and was considered Dr. Dawn by her family. She loved football, hockey, ringuette, baseball and played the NFL football pool. In her younger years Dawn toyed with learning to playing the Accordion. Dawn Ann MacDonald was a graduate of Notre Dame College School in Welland, Ontario, and was a graduate from the School of Nursing at Hotel Dieu Hospital Chatham in 1971. She was a Registered Nurse and worked at the Hotel Dieu Hospital Chatham and was a volunteer and past president for the VON for many years in Miramichi. She also was a member of the Curisillo movement in Miramichi and attended St Michael’s Basilica Chatham, and member of the Miramichi Liberal Association for many years. Dawn Ann is survived by her loving husband Wayne (Blackie) MacDonald, by her three children : Jody MacDonald (Lori O’Neill), Scott MacDonald (Erin), and Krista Dickson (Billy), seven grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Brooklyn, Abby, Lyvia, Rebecca, Faith, and Nate. Dawn Ann is also survived by her mother Lydia Matchett of Welland, Ont, two brothers: Stafford Jr. Matchett (Linda), of Welland, Ont, and Allan Matchett (Eric) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, one sister: Lillian Matchett of Welland, Ont, brother-in-law Ronnie MacDonald (Terry), sister-in-law’s Donna (Carl) Savoy, and Sharon (late Mike) McLean and several nieces and nephews. A special thanks to the staff of Palliative Care Unit, CCU Unit, 2nd West Floor, 4 East floor, Dr. W. M. McGillivray, Dr. Gerard Losier, Dr. Moses Rambaran, Dr. Amos Kpogo, also to Dr. Peter Docherty, Caroline Deverex, Dr. Kempt of Moncton City Hospital. Dawn Ann (Matchett) MacDonald is resting at Maher’s Funeral Home Miramichi on Sunday November 26, 2017 from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday November 27, 2017 at 11am from St Michael’s Basilica with Fr. Leon Creamer officiating. As a expression of sympathy a donation may be made to the M.O.R.E. Services Vocational Program Miramichi or to the Miramichi S.P.C.A would be appreciated.
