It is with heavy hearts that the family of James “Jim” Franklin McCurry announces his passing on Friday, February 24, 2017 at the age of 84 years at Muskoka Shores Long Term Care Facility in Gravenhurst, Ontario. Jim was predeceased by his children Elizabeth and Francis and by his brother Francis “Bud”.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Catherine “Dolly” McCurry; his children Marie and Patricia; his son-in-law John Schmidt and daughter-in-law Barbara McCurry; his grandchildren; Rebecca, Timothy, Dane, Kevin, Adam, Nicholas, Hope and Erin.
Jim was born on April 13, 1932 in Syracuse, New York, to the late Francis “Duke” McCurry and Harriet Rachel McVeigh. Jim had a very successful career as the Director of Recreation with the City of Brampton, Ontario. In 2003, to commend his service, Victoria Park Arena was renamed in his honour. For over twenty years Jim enjoyed splitting his retirement between his condo in Florida and his blue cottage on Skeleton Lake in Muskoka. Jim will be remembered for his sense of humour, his love of the Toronto Blue Jays, Coca Cola, and most of all, his family. He will be dearly missed.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Gravenhurst on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 12 noon. Interment taking place at the Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Brampton on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Vincent de Paul Society of Gravenhurst would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Cavill-Turner Funeral Home, Gravenhurst.
