William (Billy) Kennedy Obituary
In Loving Memory of William (Billy) Kennedy
1946 – 2025
No words can express our deep sorrow as we announce the passing of William (Billy) Francis Gerard Kennedy, a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
The only son of Isabelle (Conroy) and William Kennedy, Billy was born at home in Glenwood, NB on July 23rd, 1946. As a young boy, he had a great love of the outdoors. He would often be found riding his Roadmaster wagon and spending time with one of his many beloved dogs. He never missed an opportunity to go for a drive with his father. From an early age, Billy had a love of sports and a natural athletic ability as he played baseball and cow dung hockey in the yard and skated on Holland’s field when it froze in the winter. He started his baseball career with the Glenwood Aces then the Napan Intermediate Braves, and played softball with the Hospital Medics followed by the Glenelgers. In later years, after he stopped playing himself and added the role of coach and mentor to his many titles. He took the last place Napan Braves Beavers to first place in Bantam and Midget. He also helped coach women’s softball and was also known to throw a few strikes in his day at the bowling alley.
Another of his joys was taking a walk on the family property with his cousin and best buddy, Kenny Conroy, where they knew every tree and trail. Billy shared a great bond with his many Glenwood cousins and neighbors. Never hesitating to help and not afraid to tackle any job, Billy was always willing to lend a hand to neighbours and family. He attended Glenwood School and then graduated from Saint Thomas High School. Billy went on to work at the base in St. Margarets, at Lounsbury’s Motor Branch and then at Northumberland Co-op for over 30 years. He was well liked and respected by his peers and coworkers. He loved to dance and, after a beer or two, he never passed up the chance to hit the floor. He was also a trusted confidante and loved to reminisce, especially about times ‘in home’ in Glenwood.
Billy was not a prideful man but never hesitated to express his pride for his children and grandchildren. Of all his titles and accomplishments, being dad to his kids and Big Dad to his grandchildren was his greatest one. His favourite times were with his kids, their partners and grandkids. Be it flying across Canada to see them or traveling to a local gym or a rink to watch a game, or simply sharing a home cooked meal. He cherished those trips near and far because he was able to spend time with those he loved the most.
Billy will be remembered by all those who knew him for his quick wit and talent for storytelling and delivering a joke. One of life’s greatest gifts is the ability to make others laugh. Billy possessed that gift in abundance.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church.
Billy is lovingly remembered by his three children, Tracy (Stephen) of Miramichi, Colleen (Ryan) of Calgary, AB and Billy (Amanda) of Chestermere, AB. He will be greatly missed by his six grandchildren, Mason, Delaney, Brogan, Nolan, Christina and Keegan.
He leaves behind his sisters Anne DeWolfe (Jeff) and Carmel Mullins (Gerald) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Billy will also be missed by his canine companion, Jovie.
Besides his parents, Billy is predeceased by sisters Kay (Jack) Bell, Patsy Kennedy and Rita Kennedy; niece Michelle LeBouthillier; nephew Gary Nowlan as well as numerous aunts and uncles.
Our family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to Billy’s cousin, Jimmy Conroy, a trusted friend who was right by his side till the end.
We also would like to express our deepest gratitude and thanks to Dr. Gerard Losier and the exceptional caregivers at Percy’s Place who showed so much care and compassion to him and his whole family in his final days as he made his journey home. He was cared for like he was your own family and we are forever thankful to you each and every one of you.
We would also like to thank the Oncology Staff at Region 7 as well as his Extra Mural caregivers. The care and concern you showed him was nothing but remarkable. Despite the battle he was facing the onsite and at home visits with the nurses who cared for him were a bright spot for him. He would repeatedly express how wonderful you all were and we are forever thankful.
