It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Tomo Koturic, who passed away peacefully at the age of 77.
Born in Domaljevac (Posavina), Bosnia in 1947, into hardship and with a humble upbringing, Tomo and his brothers and sisters grew up surrounded by the traditions and values that shaped Tomo into the kind, generous, and hardworking man he became.
As a young man, he attended seminary school where he also studied Latin and German. Tomo loved to learn about everything from history and geography to science and new technology. He was fascinated by how things worked — always exploring, tinkering, and reading. His creativity found expression not only in the ideas he loved to explore, but also in his hands-on hobbies. Whether it was painting landscapes that reflected his love of nature or crafting beautiful pieces from blocks of wood, he poured care and attention into everything he did.
Tomo and his family moved to Zagreb in 1975 and then later immigrated together to Toronto, Canada in 1990 to build a new life. He joined and helped the local Croatian and church communities in Toronto, Mississauga, and Norval.
He was a loving husband to Ruza and dedicated father to his two children, Marijan and Leo, whom he raised with wisdom, patience, and pride. He was also a deeply devoted grandfather to his four grandchildren, Lorie, Eva, Leo, and Bella Rose who always brought him immense joy. His eyes would light up with every story, every drawing, and every laugh they shared. He was always loving and caring to his brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, and extended family, always there for them whenever they needed him.
To his children and grandchildren, he was a gentle guide — someone who made us laugh, who never missed a special occasion to celebrate us, and who taught us the beauty of the little things: a walk outside, a painting, learning something new, or a well-timed joke. To us, he was a rock — someone who always made sure we knew we were loved.
He was a quiet strength in our lives, steady and dependable, always there with a kind word, a helping hand, or a story from the past that somehow held the wisdom we needed in the present. Whether he was tinkering in the garage or in the backyard, sharing stories of his youth, or simply enjoying a quiet cup of coffee, he lived life with grace and gratitude. In his 70-plus years, he built a life rooted in love, family, and integrity — values that he passed down through his actions even more than his words.
He may be gone from our sight, but his lessons, his love, and his legacy live on in each of us. We are who we are because of him. And for that, we are endlessly grateful.
Please join us not to just mourn the loss, but to also celebrate the life of a remarkable man — a husband, a father, a grandfather, our guide, and our friend.
We will miss him every day, but we will carry him forward in our hearts, always.
