Obituary of Susan Quittkat
Susan Quittkat
1948-2025
After an afternoon of laughter with her friends and sister, Susan passed away peacefully on April 25th, 2025 in Coburg, Ontario.
Susan was born in Burford, Ontario in 1948. One of seven children, she grew up attending a one room schoolhouse and helping on the family’s tobacco farm. After completing high school, she attended Algonquin college, and later the University of Guelph to study science. Her career began in medical research at University of Toronto and McMaster, and then she went on to work for Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Loblaw Canada specializing in quality control for fish and shellfish. While working, she made friends, who remained close for the rest of her life, Mary Brock, Craig McTavish, and Ken Grieves and his wife Carolyn.
Susan was always full of stories and had a great sense of humor. She loved books, especially those set in Britain; her cat; and music, attending many concerts, and compiling an extensive record collection.
Susan leaves behind her sisters Penny (Mickey), Iris (Bram), Carol (Clint); her brothers Ed, and Paul (Sharon); and her nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Anne and Herman Quittkat and her eldest sister Lucy (Larry).
During the last year, Susan moved to Coburg to be closer to her sister Iris. She lived in Extendicare where the staff were wonderful and treated her with excellent care.
