Ruth’s Obituary
RAINFORTH-WARD, Ruth Madeline ~ Age 92, of Berwick, formerly of Morristown, Kings Co., passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025, in Valley Hospice, Kentville. Born on December 3, 1932, in Nicholsville, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Frederick C. and Grace E. (Cavanaugh) Nichols.
Ruth took her training at Grace Maternity Hospital, Halifax, where she graduated as a Grace Nurse in 1952. She worked for many years at Western Kings Memorial Hospital, Berwick, until her retirement and helped her late husband operate the family farm in Morristown. Ruth was a member of Berwick Baptist Church, W.W.S. Auxiliary and the Women’s Missionary Society in both Berwick and Morristown. She had been a former C.G.I.T. leader in Morristown and was active with the Mountain Peakers Seniors Group and their gatherings.
Ruth was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are her husband, Paul L. Ward; daughter, Donna (Marvin) Weihers, Rockland; son, Tim (Mary Ann) Rainforth, Morristown; grandchildren, Richard (Ali), Sara (Craig), Josh (Adele) and Lindsay (Chris); great grandchildren, Hanna, Rose, Gracelyn, Ella, Lane, Bridgette, Hazel and Freya; step children, Wendy (Gordon) Ward, Greg (Midori) Ward, Sandy Wheeler and Denise (Corky Hirtle) Ward; several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, George N. Rainforth; great granddaughter, Annabel; sisters, Florence Hope, Genevieve Felice and Vivian Agnew; brothers, Seldon and Lawson Nichols.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. A memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 22, in Berwick Baptist Church, 265 Commercial St., Berwick. Rev. Andrew Conrad officiating, with interment in Morristown Cemetery, at a later date. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to Berwick Baptist Church or Valley Hospice Foundation.
