It is with great sadness the family of Rosetta Martin
(formerly Oliver, nee Dobson) announces her peaceful passing on March
7, 2025 at Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, NS with her family by her
side.
Rosetta (Rose) was born June 17,1930 in Coulsdon, Surrey,
England, the youngest daughter of Ivohe and Lily Dobson (nee
Pepperdine). Rose had 2 older sisters, Doris and Renie, whom she
adored.
As Rose grew older, she lived and persevered during the
throes of war. As a young girl of barely 16, she met a Canadian
soldier named Edgar and it was a fast love. Rose soon boarded the
Mauretania and set sail for Canada as part of the “War
Bride” program. In 1946 she landed at Pier 21, Halifax, NS to
start a new life in Canada. She truly was a pioneer for young
immigrant women. She and her new husband Edgar set roots in Saint
John, NB where she lived for 24 years and they had 2 children, Shirley
and Paul.
In 1969, Rosetta and Edgar parted ways, but remained best of
friends and spoke several times a day. They eventually both retired
within 10 min of each other in rural NS. Rose headed West in 1969 and
made Vancouver her home until she retired to NS in the early
80s.
Rose had a fierce independence and strength her whole life
that was admired by all who knew her. Her very presence in a room
demanded attention and respect like no other. Rose took immense pride
in everything she did. Her health, her home, her landscaping, her
appearance, cooking and baking, everything had a touch of perfection.
So much so, we often accused her of buying her delicious desserts and
passing them off as her own…but it was just pure talent and, try as
we might, no one could ever recreate a “Rosie spun
treat.”
Rose lived a life that was full of action and adventures and
one she could be proud of.
Rose was predeceased by her daughter, Shirley; son, Paul;
son-in-law, Captain Harold Jack; grandson, Dustan; her first husband,
Edgar; her Mum and Dad, and 2 sisters. Also, a special mention of her
long-term partner, Steve, who was by her side until his passing. She
is survived by her loving grandchildren: Brad (Lisle), Kelsie (Greg),
Tara, Luke (Amanda) and Ashley (Telly) and loving daughter-in-law,
Wendy; 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild; and many
nephews and nieces.
The family would like to thank the compassionate care of Glen
Haven Manor.
Funeral 2pm Wednesday, March 12, in R.H. Porter Funeral Home,
55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow, with Rev. Andrew MacDonald officiating.
Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Donations in
Rosetta’s name may be made to the charity of your
choosing.

just too short to live a dull one. Choose your day
