Perley Calvin Oliver, born August 10, 1947, was received by his Lord on the 5 th day of February 2025 after a valiant and hard-fought battle with cancer. The son of the late Lester and Avis (Ford) Oliver, he is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Carol (Barton); his sons Regan (Jennifer) and Jason (Joel) Oliver, and Anthony Miller; the lights of his life, grandsons Noah and Jonah; siblings Theresa (Charles Mantley) and Brian; many extended family members. He was predeceased by his siblings Clark Oliver and Sandra Miller.
Perley was the devoted husband to Carol, the love of his life, and a father, grandfather and friend. Although someone who rarely said the words “I love you”, he demonstrated daily just how deeply he cared for his family through his many thoughtful and selfless actions.
Before retirement he was employed with CN Rail for thirty-five years where he held a variety of positions. A skilled draftsman he not only designed his own home, but the homes of other family members as well. Perley was a warm, friendly person who could strike up a meaningful conversation with anyone. A faithful member of his church and the community, he would always be the first to offer help to someone in need and was “the rock” for all his extended family.
He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
A brief visitation will be held at the Lucasville Baptist Church (619 Lucasville Road) on Tuesday February 11, 2025, starting at 10:00 am, immediately followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am. Service officiated by Pastor Allister Johnson and Pastor Stephen Gough. Following the service, interment will be at Oakridge Memorial Gardens.
Friends will then be received at the Wallace Lucas Community Centre.
The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to the staff at the QE2 and Palliative Care who comforted Perley during his final days.
