Obituary of Patricia Carolyn Smith
And to those who loved her… Carrie; Car; Mum; Mommy; Gramma; Grams; Gram-Gram; Mini-Gramma
OCTOBER 28, 1947 – FEBRUARY 12, 2025
The heart of our family, Carrie (77), passed away on February 12, 2025, surrounded… and I mean surrounded by her loving family.
Carrie was predeceased by her husband Maurice, who passed away in 1998, Even in death, he continued to watch over her, and for that, we are forever grateful.
She is survived by her four children, Dawn (Kenny deceased in 2019), Connie (Oscar—Ti), Shannon (Dave), and Jerry (Shannon): nine grandchildren: Tyler (Jen), Matthew, Cassandra (Devon), Chelsea (Ryan), Travis, Tianna (Chris), Caleigh, Lachlan and Shaelan; four great-grandchildren:Aiden, Miley, Raven, and Colton. As well as her bonus grandchild Jeff (Katie) and great-grandchildren Austin, Preston, and Tristan.
Carrie was born in Pembroke, Ontario and is survived by her sister, Heather (Ray), her brother Pat (Lucie), and half-sisters Dianne and Julie. She was predeceased by her parents, Germaine Chartrand (Warren Gibson) and Patrick Landry as well as her brother Michael Landry.
She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, friends, and lovers (start a rumour, she’d love that!) and will be missed tremendously. She shared a special bond with her companion, Eddy, who provided love and support through the years and will be remembered for his dedication to her.
Mum loved all our fur babies, and they will miss all the love and affection they received from her…. especially Copper, Archie, Moo, and Gunnar. .
Carrie’s larger-than-life personality and zest for life made her a true force to be reckoned with. A whirlwind of energy, she was fierce, feisty and hilarious. She was a huge presence in all our lives. To her family, she was the most devoted mother; her life was defined by the love and care she gave to her children, grandchildren and all those who knew her. She was an amazing mum. To the world, she was a mother, but to our family, she was our world.
Carrie had an exceptional ability to make each of us feel special, understood, and so loved. That was her superpower!! She was such a character…a spitfire…she was the life of the party…spending time with her made you feel good. Her joy was contagious, and her love for her family was limitless. She was comfort, compassion and joy in human form.
Carrie’s passion for cleanliness earned her the titles “Cleaner Extraordinaire,” and “Queen of Clean,” and in her free time…just kidding, she was cleaning!! Vacuuming being her all-time favourite past-time!!! She worked at Carleton Lodge for many years doing what she loved most…. CLEANING!! When she wasn’t cleaning, she could always be found with a good book or newspaper in her hands, scratching her lottery tickets, shopping at her favourite thrift stores, or planning her next trip to the casino. She also cherished time spent at the campsite, where she spent many a summer CLEANING and watching her family grow while making lasting memories. Thank you, Gary and Lori and our whole MLB Family.
She was the “Keeper of Memories” and all our “Secrets.” Lord help us now! Carrie’s stories…she could tell stories like no other…and all the lessons that she taught us will live on through all of us. What we will miss the most is her laughter, loud, unrestrained, and utterly contagious. She taught us that “Life is too short not to laugh”, but “Life is also not the same without her. “
Carrie was a proud member of AA and a friend of Bill W for the past 40 years. We were so proud of her.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to Dr. Ducey from Brightside Medical Clinic, Emily & Victoria from Bayshore Home Health, Donna from CBI Health and Michel from IDA Stafford for all the extra special care taken and shown to Mum. You all played a crucial role in assisting us to honour her last wishes. We couldn’t have done it without you. Another big thank you to Dr Hirsh (retired) for the years of care that was provided to Mum. We would also like to thank everyone for your loving support and for being there for all of us…you know who you are!
Thank you, Mum… The greatest gift you could have given us is our siblings. Rest easy, we are not alone because we have each other. Thank you for always being there for us. You were more than just our Mum… you were our best friend, our rock and our biggest cheerleader. We were so lucky to have you.
So, here’s to you, Mum; may heaven be ready….
