Age 90, of Es, Ontario, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 26, 1934, in Llangollen, Wales. Myra grew up in Sunbank, Wales, surrounded by the warmth of her large family, including her six siblings. At the age of 16, she embarked on her lifelong passion for caring for others, entering nursing school and later moving to London, England, to work as a midwife. In her early twenties, Myra’s adventurous spirit led her to Canada, where she continued her nursing career and explored the vast landscapes of North America. Notably, she and three dear friends embarked on an epic 3-month road trip, traversing across Canada, the US, and Mexico.
She settled in Sarnia, where she married Bernard Thompson and lovingly raised her three children. Myra dedicated 40 years of her life to caring for others as a nurse at many hospitals, including Sarnia General Hospital. Beyond her nursing career, Myra was known for her love of baking. Her home was always filled with the aroma of freshly baked treats, a testament to her nurturing spirit. Myra will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her passion for caring for others was evident in her long and dedicated nursing career. She also possessed an unwavering love for travel and exploring the world.
Myra is survived by her devoted husband, Bernard Thompson; her children, Anita (Calvin), David, and Stephen; her grandchildren, Andrea (Michael), Jeremy (Madeleine), and Jeffrey; and her great-grandchildren, Violet and Tonino. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Erie Shores Hospice (Donations are accepted and cheques made to Erie Shores Health Foundation).
