Obituary of Mildred “Millie” Christena McDonald, Glace Bay
It is with great sadness, that we the children of Millie McDonald, age 82 of Glace Bay announce her peaceful passing on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025 in her bed at Victoria Haven Nursing Home, where she was cared for like family.
Born in Glace Bay, Millie was the daughter of the late John G. & Theresa (Pratt) McNeil.
Millie was the epitome of a good mom, sister, wife, sister-in-law, mother-in-law and most of all Nanny. Millie was a hard worker all of her life and rarely complained, she was faithful to her beliefs and always did her best at anything she did in life. Our mom always saw the best in everyone, even people who let her down, there was nobody like her and there never will be. We were so blessed to have such a wonderful role model and mom.
Mom leaves behind her six children, Reg, Pat, Lorraine, Ann, Margie (Keith), and Denise (Michael). She also leaves behind 12 Grandchildren, Colleen, Ryan, Alex, Eric, Will, John, Zachary, Gail, Keith, Blair, Dylon, and Christena, 19 great grandchildren, sisters, Beryl Kelly and her twin, Carmella (Teddy) Michalik.
Mom also leaves behind sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law who were more than in-laws to her, Neil Butts, Margie & Ray Morrison, Denise & Gerald Clarkson, and Nancy & Bernie Ellsworth, and her best friend in life, Laraine Penny.
We are sure she was greeted in heaven by our Dad (Reg McDonald), her sister Marie (Neil) Butts, her brother Jim and his wife Ruth, her brother-in-law, Joe MacDonald who she had many phone conversations with and you could always tell by how much she laughed it was him, also her sister -in-law, Colleen Martin and her husband Hogey.
Our mom suffered from dementia but never lost her sense of humour or her love for people and music, even when she wasn’t the best singer.
We the family cannot express enough how grateful we are to the staff at Victoria Haven Nursing Home for the love and care they gave to our mom over the past two years, to say they went above and beyond is an understatement, so to the CCA’s, Nurses, the kitchen staff, and housekeeping and recreation we could not have asked for better people to care for our mom when we could not. Love to you all.
To honour our mom who lived her life helping anyone she could, please do something kind for someone and be kind to each other.
“We Love you Mom, thank you for being ours”
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 10th at 10 am in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Macleen Anyanwu presiding.
