Melissa Arlene Wildfong (née Collingwood) passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 13, surrounded by her loved ones at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener. She is deeply cherished and missed by her children, Mike (Bianca), Lisa (Don), Rodney (Angela), Tanya (Colin), and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Melissa is also fondly remembered by her brother Craig (Beryl), sister Sharon (Gord), sister-in-law Karen, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Born in Galt, Ontario, on February 16, 1945, Melissa spent the majority of her life in Cambridge. She was an incredibly hard worker, always willing to go to great lengths to provide for her family. Melissa found immense joy in the lives of her children and grandchildren, eagerly listening to their stories and cherishing every moment spent with them. Her time with the little ones brought her unparalleled happiness, regardless of how she was feeling.
Melissa was fiercely protective of her loved ones, always standing up for and with them. Known for her occasional sharp tongue and the distinctive laughter of a Collingwood, she was always her authentic self. Melissa loved a good party, even if she wouldn’t admit it, and enjoyed crossword puzzles and word searches. She followed in her Mother’s footsteps as there was no greater excitement then when emergency vehicles came speeding down Eagle Street.
A longtime member of the New Apostolic Church, Melissa dedicated many years to serving her congregation and supporting the faith and growth of her family. It is comforting to know that much of what she believed in will now become a reality for her.
Melissa was predeceased by her husband, Robert Wildfong, her parents, Ruby and Percy Collingwood, her brother, Gary and her companion Marcel. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers of Wheels of Hope, as well as the doctors, nurses, and support staff at Grand River Hospital, especially Dr. Needham-Nethercott and nurse Amy, who made her final days as comfortable as possible.
Resting at Corbett Funeral Home, 95 Dundas St, N., Cambridge, where family and friends will be received for Visitation on Tuesday March 18, 2025 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service to be held at New Apostolic Church, 10 Birkinshaw Road, Cambridge, on Wednesday March 19, 2025 at 7 p.m. Cremation to take place at a later date.
Mom, your heart was our home. The only thing deeper than the pain of losing you is our love for you. You made life beautiful, and for that, we are forever grateful.
