SAMSON, Mary Ina, Samson’s Cove
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our Mama, Mémé, and Grand-Mémé, Mary Ina Samson of Samson’s Cove, which occurred at her home surrounded by her family on March 10, 2025. Born on June 3, 1935, in Petit de Grat and raised on Green Island, she was the daughter of the late Amedee Alec and Catherine Jane (Boudreau) Boudreau.
Ina loved her family dearly. She worked at Booth Fisheries for only a short time before staying at home to raise her family. She loved being in the woods picking berries and mayflowers and in her earlier days, danced the night away at Saturday night Pig ‘n Whistles. She enjoyed a good game of cards, Bingo and watching her 70’s game shows and Coronation Street on TV. The Toronto Blue Jays was her favorite team. She never missed a televised game, nor giving the manager a colorful earful if they lost. She was a wonderful cook, making the best homemade bread, turkey dinner and fricot au “moyak” with lots of “poutines”. Her Phentex slippers were made with love, and she made sure to knit us all a few pairs during the last few years so that we would have some “pour après j’sus partie”, as she would say. We loved listening to her stories of growing up on Green Island with her parents and sisters, the Green Island Girls. We will miss her immensely.
Ina is survived by her daughters; Cynthia Joyce (Ronnie), Arichat, Connie Samson, Lantz; sons John (Rose), Petit de Grat, Gene (Natalie), Arichat, Mark (Claire), Dartmouth; grandchildren Cassie, David, Robyn, Dylan, Adèle, Nathan, Jean-Marc, Juliette, Joël; great grandchildren Megan, Alex, Paige, Sophie, Abigail; sister Lorraine Landry (Boudreauville).
Besides her parents, Ina was predeceased by her husband Wilfred Gerard Samson; granddaughter Maggie (in infancy); sisters Mable Samson, Alfreda Boudreau and Yvonne Boudreau.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service at her request. A private burial will take place at a future date.
Memorial donations can be made to the Nova Scotia Lighthouse Preservation Society (www.nslps.com/about-nslps/donate). Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd., Arichat. Tributes, words of comfort, and memories of Ina may be shared with the family at www.chboudreau.com.
We would like to thank all those involved with Mom’s medical care including Dr. Hewlett, Dr. Scott MacNeil, Island Pharmacy, EHS, the staff of Strait Richmond Hospital, Dr. Hanspal, Dr. Deroche and Dr. Pluta. As well, we would like to thank Dr. Lisa Gillis, Kyla and Leslie from Strait Richmond Palliative Care and the Home Care team.
We would also like to thank our family and friends for your support through this difficult time with your messages, prayers and offers of food.
A special thank you goes out to our cousins, Cathy Boudreau and Douglas Boudreau, whose kindness and generosity allowed us to honor our Mama’s final wish. We will be eternally grateful.
