Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Lacey
(nee Williams) passed away November 3rd, 2025,
at Mountainside Lodge. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred
Lacey (1994).
She is survived by son George,
Queenstown; two daughters, Gladys Lacey-House (Lorne), Fredericton,
and Marilyn Mann (Jim), Nasonworth; five grandsons, William Lacey
(Tanya), Timothy Lacey (Janet), Jason Lambert,
Andrew Lambert, and Scott Mann; two granddaughters, Melanie
Lambert and Amanda Lacey (Andrew); five great grandchildren,
Brannagh Lacey, Georgia Dale, Oliver Tayes, Issac Tayes, and Grayson
Lambert. She is also survived by her sisters, Ruth Ferguson, Norah
Heater and many nieces, nephews and
cousins.
She was predeceased by her
parents, husband Fred, brother George (5yrs old), daughter-in-law
Donna, brother Arthur and sister Jean.
Betty was born in Pleasant
Villa, 1923, the eldest of the family of Albert and Gladys (Dickson)
Williams. She attended the Pleasant Villa one room school to grade 9
and graduated from the former Gagetown Grammar School in 1940 as
valedictorian. The following year she graduated from the Provincial
Normal School as a schoolteacher. Betty taught in Inchby,
Juniper, Burton and Gagetown. Always active in whatever community she
found herself, she taught Sunday school and was a C.G.I.J. leader,
joined Women’s institute and Pythian
sisters.
She married Fred Lacey in 1946
and moved to Queenstown where she again became very involved,
especially in Home & School, she also became a past Provincial
President of N.B. Women’s
institute.
Betty was a member of St.
Stephen’s Anglican church, where she taught Sunday school
for over 30 years and was vestry clerk for the Parish of Gagetown for
32 years.
She received the
Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for her work with the church
and community.
Betty Remained active in the
Queenstown W.I. and St. Stephen’s ACW until failing health.
She took up residence in Mountain Side Lodge in Island
View.
She enjoyed quilting and
gardening. The children and grandchildren each have a quilt from her.
She entered exhibits in the Queens County Fair yearly; no weed was
safe in her garden.
Visitations will be held on
Sunday November 9, 2025, from 2-4 and 6-8 at Bishop’s
Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton NB. The Funeral Service
will be held on Monday, November 10 at 11 am at the St.
Stephen’s Anglican Church, Queenstown, 4691 Rte. 102,
Queenstown NB. Interment in the adjoining cemetery to follow
the service.
Donations in her memory may be
made to St. Stephen’s Cemetery fund or St.
Stephen’s maintenance fund through the parish of Gagetown.
