Obituary of Maria “Rita” Henriette Catharina Vaessen
After years of pain and suffering, Maria “Rita” Henriette Catharina Vaessen (nee Fuchs) passed away on March 12, 2025 at North Lambton Lodge, surrounded by family. Born in Born, The Netherlands on October 23, 1935. She married Louis Vaessen (1932-2019) on June 2, 1959. In 1973, Mam and Pap made the brave move to Canada with 6 kids to start a fruit farm. Together they raised their family of Matthew (Michelle), Jeff (Sally), Anna Thomson (Paul), Mary Searle (Bryan), Tina Warriner (Glen McPherson), and Margarita Weaver (Geoff). Beloved Oma of Doug, Kimberly, Justin, Natasha, M.J., Sarah, Nick, Michael, Katrina, Cearra, Timothy, Eric, Kaitlynn, Theresa, Eli, Natalie, Joseph and Emma and their partners and 22 (and counting) great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. Survived by her siblings Paul and Maria. Predeceased by her grandson Kevin and her brother Jean.
Mam was an amazing woman who never needed a pattern or a recipe to make something wonderful. With her smile and laugh she made friends wherever she went, specializing in babies. She became Mama to the staff at the Lodge who took such excellent care of her for the last 13 years. To all the staff who took care of Mama, thank you.
A visitation will take place at Denning’s of Forest from 9:30am to 10:30am on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place the same day at St. Christophers Catholic Church at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Beechwood Cemetery. Reception to follow at the church.
