It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Maria (Mary) Ferrara, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. Mary succumbed to pancreatic cancer and passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, at the age of 85.
Born on September 24, 1940, in Castelpetroso, Italy, Mary immigrated to Port Colborne, Ontario, at the age of 16. While her family later settled in Ocean City, New Jersey, Mary chose to remain in Port Colborne, where she married Innocenzo “Enno” Ferrara on August 6, 1960. They shared over 60 years of marriage before Enno’s passing.
Mary was a devoted mother to her three children: Antonio (Maria), David (Jacqueline), and Christina. She was a proud and loving Nonnie to her four grandchildren: Paul, Michael, Brooke, and Brenna. She is survived by her sister Anna (Domenic) Sirianni.
She was predeceased by her husband Enno, her brother Alfonso De Michele, and her parents Maria and Felice De Michele.
Mary was a homemaker in the truest sense. Her home was a place of warmth, generosity, and good food. She was an exceptional cook and talented seamstress, known for creating meals seemingly out of nowhere and putting care into every dish and stitch. She will always be remembered by friends and family for her kindness, resilience, and quiet strength.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Jocelyn from the palliative care team, along with Sarah, Jenn, Sandy, and Tonya, the PSWs, for their compassion and support. The family also expresses deep gratitude to friends and relatives for their outpouring of love, thoughtful visits, generous gifts of food, and beautiful flowers.
The family will receive friends at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Tuesday from 2 – 4 p.m. & 6 – 8 p.m. Vigil Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday October 8, 2025 at St. John Bosco R.C. Church, 375 Main Street West, Port Colborne with Father Peter Walton as celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Mount St. Joseph Cemetery, Port Colborne.
