It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Margaret Elizabeth (Baxter) Levy of Three Mile Plains, who left this world peacefully with her family at her side on Thursday, February 27, 2025, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on March 20, 1939, in Saint John, New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Alexander Johnstone “AJ” and Ruth (Franklin) Baxter.
Her fondest memories of her youth, which she recounted often, were of growing up in Saint John and her time living in Keji on the Mersey River. As a young adult, Margaret attended Acadia University and then the Nova Scotia Teacher’s College where she met the love of her life, Charles “Charlie” Levy. They were married shortly after graduation and taught in the elementary school system for 35 years while raising their family of four children.
Margaret was proud of her career as a teacher and even more proud of her family and their accomplishments. She loved dogs, tea parties, flowers and anything that sparkled or shined. A perfect lady to the very end, she charmed everyone with her polite manners and sweet nature. Her mottos in life were witty and full of positivity while she often encouraged her children and family members to “eat dessert first” which was her way of saying, make sure you are doing the things you enjoy first and foremost, but also quite literally, eat dessert first because it’s delicious and fun. She set an example as an amazing wife and mother whose legacy will live on in her children and grandchildren for generations to come.
She will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Charlie; children, Sharon (David) Watson, Alan (Heather), Alexander “Alex” (Lisa) and Sarah (Michael Barker); grandchildren, Jenna (Adam), Christopher (Mirae), Rhiannon, Hannah, and Mikayla; great-grandchildren, Skye, Lauren, Charlie-Mae, Amelia, Willow, Everyn and Rennick and sister, Lynn MacFarlane.
Besides her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her brother, Keith Baxter.
The family would like to thank the emergency room staff at Valley Regional Hospital who cared for Margaret with kindness, compassion and dignity in her final days.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A combined service and celebration of life to honour Margaret will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 10 in the O’Brien Building, 221 Wentworth Road, Windsor (Windsor Exhibition Grounds). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Margaret to Valley Regional Hospital Foundation, 150 Exhibition St., Box 911, Kentville, NS B4N 4H8 (vrhfoundation.ca). In her memory, Margaret’s family encourages everyone who knew her to “eat dessert first”. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting: www.demontfamilyfuneralhome.ca.
