It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Mabel Margaret Hynes announces her passing on Monday, February 10th, 2025, with her loving family by her side at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Center at the age of 92. Born in Port aux Basques, Mabel was the daughter of the late Garfield and Hazel (nee Samms) Strickland.
Mabel leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her children, Barbara (Bill), Tony, Kaye, Andy (Laurie), Jo-Anne (Tony), Jackie (Mike), Steve, Darrell, and daughter in law Carina, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, brother, Austin Snooks, sister-in-law, Greta Strickland, plus a large circle of nieces and nephews.
Mabel was predeceased by her husband, Earl Hynes, son, Danny Hynes, and daughter, Sharon Hynes. She is also predeceased by her brother and sisters, Jake Strickland, Ann Osmond, and Mildred Brooker.
Mabel was a resident of St. Andrew’s for many years and was well known and loved by her family and friends. After losing her husband over 40 years ago & with some help from her family, she raised her 4 youngest children on her own. She loved her family dearly and after they were grown & left home she travelled a lot, visiting each one of her children before returning to her home in the valley. Mabel lived her faith and it brought her much joy and comfort. She went to church every Sunday and read her Bible faithfully every night before going to bed. She was a kind, charitable & compassionate person who donated to many charities and would never pass anyone in need without helping out in some way. She will be dearly missed by her loving family, and we will keep her forever in our hearts.
We would like to say a special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow for their compassion and care they showed to our mother.
Visitations will be held at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, February 13th from 1:00-5:00 P.M. with a wake service starting at 4:30 P.M. The funeral service will take place Friday, February 14th at 11:00 A.M. with Father Prakash officiating. Interment to follow at Precious Blood Cemetery, St. Andrew’s.
