Ludger Pierre Girouard
juillet 14, 1934 — janvier 15, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Ludger Pierre Girouard of Sutton Road, Miramichi which occurred on January 15th, 2025. Ludger, husband of the late Elsie Marie (Ashton), passed away peacefully at Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home at the age of 90. Born July 14, 1934 in Tracadie-Sheila, NB to Edmond and Clara (Ferguson) Girouard, the family moved to Nelson-Miramichi in 1941.
Ludger is survived by his four children: Kimberly Lavoie (Gordie), Kevin Girouard (Yvonne), Stephen Girouard, all of Miramichi and Roger Girouard (Andrea) of Dartmouth, NS. He cherished his grandchildren Jordan Lavoie (Michael), Alex Girouard (Hannah), Elyse Girouard (Kevin) and Reese Girouard (Lauren) and just the mention of his great-grandchildren, Quinn Shannahan and Basil Girouard, brought a smile to his face. He is also survived by his brother, Lionel Girouard (Barb) and his sister, Myrtle Sisk (Morrill) of Miramichi and brother-in-law, Charles Ward of St. Mary’s, ON as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents and wife, Ludger was predeceased by brother George, brother Ernest and sisters-in-law Jeanette Girouard, Mary Genevieve Girouard, and Anne Ward.
Beginning work at a young age, Ludger tried his hand at several occupations including delivery driver, bartender, grocery manager and teacher. However, it wasn’t until John Bowes recruited him to sell VW cars that he found his true passion. A natural-born salesman, he excelled in his occupation, achieving Master Salesman status and being inducted into the Million Dollar Club over his long career with Lounsbury’s Miramichi.
Beyond his career, Ludger was well-known and appreciated for his quick wit and sense of humour. Even in his final days he continued to bring laughter to the staff, residents and visitors at MSJ who loved to listen to his stories.
A devoted member of St. Patrick’s Church, Ludger served on Parish Council for many years. He was also a proud fourth degree Knights of Columbus.
The family will receive visitors at Northumberland Funeral Home on Sunday, January 19th from 6:00-8:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick’s Church on Monday, January 20th at 11am with Fr. Anthony Das Papu officiating.
The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the exceptional staff at Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home who were so kind, compassionate and caring to Dad this past year. He loved your hugs, kisses and compliments. A special thank you to Joan Arseneau, we are forever grateful for everything you’ve done for our family and for Mom and Dad since entering our lives.
