Francis, Louis (Louie) Preston Sr., 75, of Digby NS. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Louie on February 5, 2025, at Villa d’la Baie in Meteghan. His wife of 34 years Hazel (Weir) was by his side and family joined from afar. Born in Jordantown on April 12, 1949, he was the son of the late Lydia Francis.
In addition to his mother, Louie was predeceased by his first wife, Mildred Barton, and great grandson Zion Francis.
Louie is survived by his wife Hazel; Children, Connie Francis (Sandy), Louis Francis (Angela); Brother Lyman (Rocky); Sister Sandra Francis Hargrove (Carl); Granddaughter Authumn Yabamba (Anthony); Grandsons Sean Cody and Owen Francis; Great Granddaughter Zaria Francis-Yabamba; Nieces Candace (Lamar) LaToya (Andrew) Latasha, Bri-Ann Nadine and Tania; Nephew Julian; Great Neice Sceva and Great Nephew Kai
Louie was highly active throughout his entire life, from growing up in Jordantown where he chased Mildred until she agreed to marry him. They married, had 2 beautiful children and a wonderful life together. He became a chef and worked at Digby Mountain Gap and other places around Digby.
Louie was passionate about experiencing God’s creation outdoors, spending much of his life as a very skilled farmer. He loved working with horses, participating in multiple exhibitions in Bear River and Lawrencetown. Watching oxen pulls, rabbit hounding as well as hunting and trapping
In his spare time Louie was always looking for a good deal spending a lot of time socializing and searching at Guy’s Frenchie’s. If he wasn’t there you could find him in a bingo hall laughing and cracking jokes.
Louie was also known for his strong will, unwavering determination, and love and support for his family and community. He spent many hours dressing up as Santa, helping the fire department and riding his horses in parades. Louie loved to make people laugh and he would ride his horse in the scallop day parades and go through the Tim Horton’s drive through in hopes to make the children smile.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is gone but he will never be forgotten.
The Family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Villa d’la Baie for taking care of Louie in his final months.
A celebration of Louie’s life will be held Saturday April 12, 2025 at 2:00pm in the Acaciaville Baptist Church, Acaciaville, NS.
