It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Larry Russell Garnet Doan (Papa) on the 24th of Feb. 2025, at the age of 76. He was a resident of Sauble Beach, Ontario and Winter Haven, Florida.
Larry was born on July 15, 1948 to Russell Everett Doan and Ida Margaret (nee Stutt Dowse) Doan in Brantford. After Larry graduated from Waterloo Oxford in 1966, he went on to his first job at Northern Electric (Nortel/Bell) as a telephone technician. He travelled the world working on six continents. In 1968, Larry met the love of his life and beloved wife, Ellen Elizabeth Shearer at the Port Elgin Casino. Larry and Ellen went on to have three children, Lee-Anne (spouse Doug Mitchell of Listowel), Colette Doan (of Port Hardy, BC) and Larry (spouse Miranda Doan of Gowanstown).
In 2002, Larry retired and spent his time enjoying music, cars, magazines, travelling, and, most of all, his family. Many will remember Larry for his kindness and resounding laughter.
Larry was predeceased by his parents and two siblings. He is survived by his wife, children, and two loving grandchildren, Kayleigh Doan-Adams and Max Mitchell.
The immediate family will have a private memorial. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Blessings to You Centre in Palmerston, an organization Larry felt strongly about.
Although Larry (Papa) is gone, he will live in our hearts forever.
