Kimberly Ann Gingell (nee MacNeil) CD1
Born: March 21, 1960, New Brunswick
Passed away: February 2, 2025, Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia
Age: 64
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kimberly Ann Gingell (nee MacNeil), who left us on February 2, 2025, at the age of 64. Kim passed away peacefully in her sleep and is now at peace, free from all the noise and voices that haunted her soul. We know that she is on the other side of the rainbow bridge, happy with her life-saving service dog, Omega. Kim was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Kim is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Mike; her loving children, sons Keegan and Kyle, and daughter Christie-Ann; her sister Carol Collins; her mother Gloria MacNeil; and her adored granddaughters Kiera and Emelia. She also leaves behind her treasured pets: three cats and three dogs. Kim will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews, who were always close to her heart.
Born into a military family, Kim’s journey began in New Brunswick on March 21, 1960. Following in her father’s footsteps, she joined the Army Reserve in 1978 and proudly served as a Combat Service Support officer for 29 years. Kim’s dedication to her country was evident in her support of her troops and numerous operations, primarily at 36 Brigade Headquarters in Halifax. Her service took her across the globe, including a notable tour in Africa, where she played a crucial role in training the Sierra Leone army during Operation Sculpture.
In 2001, Kim developed PTSD after returning from Africa, which led to her release from service in 2006. Her life took a positive turn when she was paired with Omega, a black Labrador retriever, on August 9, 2013—a day she fondly referred to as “Magical Monday.” This partnership marked a new beginning for Kim, allowing her to regain her sense of purpose and joy in life.
Passionate about helping others, Kim took on the role of intake coordinator for PawsFurThought, an organization dedicated to pairing injured veterans and RCMP officers with service dogs. Through her tireless advocacy for using service dogs to support those with PTSD, Kim helped improve the lives of over 100 veterans and RCMP officers. Her dedication to this cause touched many lives and brought hope to countless individuals. Kim was also a fierce advocate for mental health awareness, particularly for those suffering from PTSD. Her efforts to raise awareness and support for mental health issues have made a lasting impact on the community and the lives she touched.
Kim’s sense of duty, honesty, and integrity were among her strongest traits. She was an unwavering advocate for her family, pets, and fellow veterans, never hesitating to stand up for what she believed in. A talented artist, Kim had a remarkable knack for crafts, including cross-stitching, ceramics, and quilting. Her vibrant sense of humor and generosity shone through in all her creations, which she lovingly gifted to those around her.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 9, from 1 to 4pm at the Eastern Passage Community Funeral Home , 5 Cow Bay Road, Eastern Passage. In lieu of family flowers, Kim’s family kindly requests donations be made to Wounded Warriors Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Kim’s legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and others will forever remain in our hearts. There will never be another Kim and she will be sorely missed.
Be kind to others.

Be safe.
