It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of John Franklin Hughes of Nakusp, BC. He passed into the Lord’s arms on October 29th, 2024, at the age of 71 years.
John is remembered by his wife of 49 years, Rosemary. Children Carly; Francis (Larissa); Julianne (Nick); Paul (Alicia), and Joseph (Carlee). Grandchildren; Duncan, Sarah, Michael, Samantha, Amelia, Erin, Katelyn, Jane, Jacob, Colby, Zac, Bryce, Avery, Holly, and Reid. Step-grandchildren; Paisley, and Avery Coen. Four sisters; Carolyn, Ann, Pat, and Elaine. One brother, Charles.
John is predeceased by his mother and father, Frank and Alice, grandson Lucas, and sister Alison.
John was born in Lacombe, Alberta. He won many medals and trophies as a skater for the Red Deer Speed Skating Club. He achieved his red seal refrigeration journeyman in 1976 from SAIT. He also held a gas ticket and third-class power engineering. His trade took him from the Arctic to Calgary, to his forever home in 1996, Nakusp, BC.
John enjoyed traveling, especially to Rome and Medjugorje. He is remembered by his friends and family for his sense of humour and enjoyment of a good story or joke.
Visitation/Prayer Service – November 15th at 6:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. 96-5 Ave NW Nakusp, BC
Funeral Mass – 10:30 a.m. November 16th at Our Lady of Lourdes with interment to follow at Nakusp Cemetery 914-Broadway Street.
Celebration of Life – Nakusp Arena Auditorium November 16th at 1:00 p.m.
