It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of Yvon Goguen on Tuesday, February 11th, 2025, at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Center in Moncton.
Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Aurèle and Ida Goguen (LeBlanc).
Yvon will be sadly missed by his five children: Jocelyne (Jean) Gauvin of Cocagne, Maryse (Gérald) Daigle of Moncton, Marc (André) Goguen of Cocagne, Carolle (Richard) Coleman of Hillsborough, and Pierrette (Marc) LeBlanc of Shediac; his brother, Georges (Lois) Goguen of Moncton; his sister, Louise (Roger) Leger of Dieppe; his 13 grandchildren; his 13 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Yolande Goguen (Belliveau); his grandson, Colin; and his brothers and sisters: Roger, Ronald, Ernest, Anna and Jeannette.
Yvon J Goguen was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in 2022. Among his accomplishments, Mr. Goguen served 18 years as a Moncton city councillor. He fought for the separation of the Moncton school district into two districts: District 15 – Anglophone and District 13 – Francophone, and also led initiatives for the construction of École Vanier, Moncton’s first French-language public high school. His other community commitments include his involvement on the boards of more than twenty committees and companies, serving for 23 years, beginning in 1961, on the Board of Directors of Assumption Life – a major Acadian institution. Finally, Yvon Goguen led his professional career in the insurance field, launching his own company: Yvon J. Goguen Assurance (now Goguen-Champlain Assurance). Through his dedication to the Acadian community, he shaped his company to serve Francophones in their own language, since the tools and processes were previously non-existent in French. At 98, Yvon still enjoyed talking about politics and current affairs.
Visitation will take place Passage (625 Mountain Road, Moncton) on Friday, March 14th, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A funeral services will be held at Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption Cathedral (226 St. George Street, Moncton) at 4 p.m.
