Obituary For Hildegard Huette
March 31, 1937 – January 25, 2025
It is with a sad heart that we wish to announce Hildegard Huette, wife of Rudy Huette, died Jan. 25th, 2025, at the age of 87 years in Grande Prairie Ab. Hildegard was born March 31st, 1937. She was born into a large family with eleven other siblings, at Tiefenstein, in Germanies beautiful black forest. Hildegard was part of the tough generation that grew up during WWII. After her primary schooling she went to culinary school. Not long after that she met a handsome young world traveler Rudy and love blossomed. However, Rudy was planning to move to Canada and left his sweetheart behind. Once in Canada, Rudy realized he couldn’t live without her and implored her to join him in Canada and marry him. She did and so began their lifelong love affair. They were married in Toronto, ON, Feb 20th, 1960.
After getting married they worked their way across Canada to Northern Alberta. During that process called life they started a homestead and raised 5 children in DeBolt, Alberta. As children we grew up swimming in dugouts, playing in the bush and bathing in a tin tub in front of the woodstove. Mom was known for her vivacious personality, big laugh and long raven colored hair. She was also very artistic. She operated her own ceramics/ craft store in the late 70’s and early 80’s. She really loved pottery and working with clay. Rudy built her a large kiln on the farm for her pottery business. Later in life she started painting and had many wonderful friendships in her Brush Buddies Painting Club.
In 1995 Rudy & Hildegard sold the farm to one of the boys and bought an acreage on Swan Lake in Tupper B.C. There they built their dream Log Home and lived there throughout their so-called retirement. It was during their retirement that they built another log home and then developed a small subdivision across Swan Lake.
After Rudy had a major stroke in 2022 and life got a lot harder for them, they no longer could live on the acreage and Mom bought a condo at Emerald Gardens in Grande Prairie Ab. They lived together as long as they could but Dad’s stroke induced dementia required him to go into a care center. This was hard on Mom. It was her love of the Lord that sustained her through these trying times. The care at Emerald Gardens and especially from Lucy her independent caregiver allowed her to live on her own right up to the time of her death.
Hildegard is survived by her husband Rudy, her brothers Werner, Eugen and sister Klara and Annie; her children Arthur, Richard nee Wendy, Fred nee Maggie, Teresa, Jenny nee Jason; grandchildren Sandy, Mike, Travis, Joel, Makayla, Spencer and Moriah; and great Grandchildren Hildi, Briggs, Ezra, Kade, Hoss and Tuff.
