Passed away with family by his side at LHSC – University Hospital, London on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Marilyn (Weber) Hern for 59 years. Loving father of Heather Hern, Scott and Regan Hern and Jeremy and Lorianne Hern. Adored papa of Rebecca; Will, Grace, Ivy; Zoey, and Zach and great-papa of Bentley, David, and Xayden. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Marilyn Dixon, Elaine Skinner, Perla and Gerry Tarsitano, and Joyce Weber. Fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his sister Phyllis and Ken Chute, siblings in-law William Dixon, and Bev Skinner, parents Francis and Mary (Hunter) Hern and parents-in-law Keith and Hazel (Williams) Weber.
Ed had a deep love for farming and farm machinery, a passion that showcased his skill and dedication throughout his life. In his later years, he took to the open road as a long-haul truck driver, proudly navigating his 18-wheeler across Canada and the U.S. In his free time, Ed found joy in woodworking—often in his workshop building birdhouses while a favorite show played in the background. As the proud patriarch of his family, Ed made it a priority to stay connected, always calling to check in and share updates. He worked hard to keep his family close and cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and joy.
The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to Dr. Ryan Davey, Dr. Stuart Smith, Dr. Sean Ryan and the staff at the cardiology unit at LHSC – UH for the care they provided to Ed over the past few weeks and years.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Ed’s Life will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, Exeter on Sunday, June 8th from 1 – 4 PM with words of remembrance starting at 2 PM.
