Service, Herbert Gordon
Herbert Gordon Service, 66, of Melancthon, Ontario, passed away peacefully in his home on March 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on February 26, 1959 in Shelburne, Ontario, Herb was a devoted husband, dad and Grampy, always putting his loved ones first. He was a mechanic by trade and spent many years working from his shop, North Dufferin Auto. He sincerely cared for his customers, and would go above and beyond to help them however he could. Herb was most often found in the shop, working on vehicles and various projects. He was a loyal friend to many, a quiet and practical man of few words. Herb will be remembered for his honest and simple life, for his trust and faith in God, and his unexpected sense of humour.
Herb is survived by his loving wife Hilda of 39 years, his children Kim and Shawn, Michelle and Tom, Tricia and Brandon, Mark, and grandchildren Eva, Meliya, Kailey, Eric and Dax who will forever cherish his love and guidance. He is also survived by his brother Edward and wife Jamie, sister Joyce and sister-in-law Dawn as well as his brothers and sisters-in-law Adrian and Gail, Dorothy and Niko, Betty and Roger, and Albert and Kristin. He was preceded in death by his father Eldon and mother Muriel, brother Robert, and sister-in-law Sandy, father and mother-in-law Bert and Siets, and brother-in-law Ed. Herb is remembered fondly by all of his nieces, nephews and extended family.
Herb’s family would like to thank Ontario Health at Home and Bayshore Homecare Solutions for the exceptional care provided specifically from Kuldeep, Felix, Sue, Anneka and Sidney, amongst other providers who were devoted to his care. They would also like to thank Sandra Newman, a friend who stood by and provided spiritual guidance and caring support for Herb and his family through the difficult days of this journey.
A private funeral service will be held at the Jack & Thompson Funeral Home, Shelburne. Spring interment at Shelburne Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honour may be made to the Matthews House Hospice, Bethel House Hospice or Headwaters Health Care Foundation.
