Cavell Bernetta Saint Obituary
Cavell Bernetta Saint
January 19, 1939 – December 30, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce Cavell Bernetta Saint (nee Dyke) passed peacefully, but suddenly away on December 30, 2024 at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, at the age of 85.
Cavell is predeceased by her parents Agnes and Roland Dyke, of Port Union; brother Robert “Bob” Dyke; and brother-in-law Roy Sweet.
Leaving to mourn with cherished memories her husband of 64 years, Edric Saint; daughter Sandra (David) Parsons; son Wayne (Connie) Saint; brothers: Clayton (Millicent) Dyke and Barry (Annette) Dyke; sister Gladys Sweet; sisters-in-law: Verlin, Roxanne, Glenda (Robin) Saint, and Jean (Rene) Osorio; grandchildren: Krista (Cody) Mitchell, Kayla (Glenn) Finlay, and Kelly (Justin) Grainger; great grandchildren: Brooke, Owen, Charlotte, Anna, Declan, and Bennett; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family; friends throughout the years; and a close neighbour and friend Fred Babstock.
Cavell grew up in Port Union and following her schooling she worked briefly at the Fishermen’s Union Trading Company. She then moved to St. John’s where she went to work at Imperial Optical, she often spoke of walking down Longs Hill in her high heels. Her last job before her retirement was at Zellers (Torbay Road and Stavanger Drive) where she was known to all as “Saint”. She enjoyed her retirement years travelling by boat to her cabin in Puddin Cove, snowmobiling around Musgravetown, and travelling around the island fishing and enjoying the outdoors. I can imagine her now trouting in some pond somewhere.
The family would like to thank the staff of the 7th floor West, St Clare’s Mercy Hospital. And a special thank you to PCA Mary, your kindness is a blessing.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 10:00am-2:00pm, at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue. A memorial service will be held following visitation at 2:00pm in Barrett’s Memorial Chapel. A burial to take place at a later date, to be determined.
The memorial service will be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend in person, Click Here.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations can be made in Cavell’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.
