KOENIG, Barbara Darlene of Dorchester. In her 68th year, with her family by her side, at LHSC on Wednesday, June 4th. Cherished and beloved wife of Randy, mother of Shawna Rodgers {Gary} of Dorchester, Jamie Koenig of Burlington, and Jenna Vince {Derek} of Toronto. Dearly loved Grammie of Abby Rodgers {Jacob}, Margot Vince, Kyle {Monica} and Garret Rodgers {Marc}, and sister Karen Zavitz of London. Loved by many nieces and nephews.
Barb fought a 5 year battle with lung disease and received a double lung transplant in 2022. Her endless optimism and tenacity post transplant was an inspiration to all who knew her, and the extra gift of time was precious to her and her family. Her gratitude and resilience inspired her to participate in research and clinical trials – paving the way for improved outcomes for others affected by lung disease. Barb was eternally grateful for the healthcare that she received from those at TGH lung transplant clinic, and LHSC.
Barb was a social butterfly, always ready with a smile and a positive attitude, and she was known to many around Dorchester from her many years at Foodland. Barb loved the more than 10 winters she spent as a snowbird in Lakeland, Florida, surrounded by friends and shuffleboard.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of D6 medicine and D5 respirology at LHSC for their compassionate care and support during Barb’s final days.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #513, 1227 Donnybrook Drive, Dorchester on Monday, June 16,2025 between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Cremation has taken place. A private family inurnment service will take place at Dorchester Union Cemetery Columbarium.
