I, Angela Dawn Goodwin, 62, of Yarmouth died peacefully at home on February 9 2025 after a long battle with an aggressive form of meningioma brain cancer. Two of my best friends were with me.
Born May 1, 1962 (hooray, hooray the first of May…). Left to mourn me the most is my best friend and help mate of 28 years Mitchell (Yvonne) d’Entremont. I am survived by my parents, Wayne and Gloria Goodwin, and father, John Allan (Phyllis). Also survived by daughter Maia, sisters Lisa (Clayton) Doucette, Maria (Leonard) Crowell, Tina (Albert) Goodwin and Emily (Kevin) Allan, as well as extended family on three sides too numerous to list. Predeceased by my special uncle Bobby Hubbard who was more like a brother to me. I feel lucky to have met my birth father in my thirties, though I ADORED the father that raised me. When John met me, I then found my “tribe” including my amazing Aunt Joan.
Thanks to my neurosurgeon Dr. Gwynedd Pickett – without her I wouldn’t have had 15 good years (and then a bad last year), Dr. Hussain and Dr. Cooper. Shoutout to Ann Jones and the Yarmouth Knitting Guild; they and Dr. Pickett understood the power of knitting in repairing the brain. Also Stephanie, Debbie, Stephen and Robyn, friends, past co-workers, neighbours and tenants, too many to list. Thanks to everyone who helped to keep me at home this past year: my fathers, sisters, the Home Care team, and most of all Mitchell who stayed with me for several hours every day.
Because I knew I had limited time since my diagnosis in 2008, I threw myself into hobbies like soap, candle, and vanilla making, beekeeping (I was instrumental in overturning the town’s anti beekeeping bylaw) and brewing wine and mead, etc. I also revived my passion for knitting, and gardening, all with Mitchell by my side. I had been a serial hobbyist in my twenties (dance, auto mechanics) and I returned to that mindset. I enjoyed my last career – production manager at SeaLife, 22 years of sharing an office with Debbie and Randy; we had a lot of laughs.
Donations to the Gilles Boudreau Cancer Fund, the Yarmouth Library or charity of choice. No service or visitation. If you wish to do something in my memory please plant native milkweed for the monarch butterflies.
