Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Wesley Carlyle Glenn announce his passing on June 26, 2023.
Born August 5, 1946, the firstborn child of Ava and Carl Glenn of the Blackfalds area. In 1949 they moved to their farm in the Sargent District southeast of Clive. Wes was a farm kid in the truest sense, enjoying all aspects of farm life with his three siblings. He was in 4H, both beef and grain clubs. He loved playing baseball and sports of any kind. Wes also enjoyed downhill skiing, golf and travelling.
Wes began his schooling in the Sargent one room school house, graduated high school in Clive, attended Red Deer College and the University of Alberta, graduating in the Class of 1969 with his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. Wes worked for the Department of Agriculture as an agricultural engineer in Red Deer.
In 1978, Wes moved back to the family farm and began his 40 year career in farming. Wes was a leader in his field being among the first in the area to grow field peas, direct seed and straight combine. He served on various farm related boards notably the Pulse Growers Association of Alberta and the Clive Seed Cleaning Plant. He was an active, involved community member who was never too busy to stop and visit with a neighbour, friend or relative who dropped in.
Wes lived a full life. He was an extremely hardworking, responsible man who has raised his kids with love, imparting his knowledge and skills to them. His children and farming were the true loves of his life.
Wes is survived by his his wife Marsha; 5 children: Jacquie (Doug), Randy, Greg (Natalie), Curtis and Trevor (Claire); 2 grandsons Khain and Tayt (Erinn) and his great-grandchildren Marni, Kassius; and his siblings Mary Bennett, Rob (Becky), and Holly (John) Baines. He was predeceased by his parents Ava and Carl, and brother-in-law and dear friend Welland Bennett.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14 at the Haynes Hall. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Parkinson’s Research would be kindly accepted.
