Obituary of Vernon Allan Hunt
It is with great sadness that the family of Vernon Allan Hunt announces his death at the Turnbull Nursing Home on Saturday Sept 9, 2023. Born on June 19, 1932, in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late James and Rose (Huard) Hunt.
Vernon worked for 35 years at NBTel and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Over the years he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, skating, hockey, playing with his dogs and enjoying meals at his favourite restaurant with his wife Ethel. Vernon was a member of St Pius X Church and took collection on Sunday for numerous years. He loved the Toronto Maple Leaf’s and playing the Lottery every week. Vernon loved a good argument and getting everyone else going which he did on a daily basis.
Vernon is survived by his children, Joseph Hunt, Theresa Hunt, Peter Hunt (Mary), Donna MacKinnon (Carl), Nancy Allain (Mike), Timothy Hunt (Trudy) and James Hunt (Casie); grandchildren, Tommy, Marcus, Katrina (Curtis), Celia (Jonathan), Timothy, Mary (Craig), Laura (Martin), Brenden, Kirsten, Joel, Sophia, Malorie (Alex), and Kyle (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Hayden, Hunter, Harvey, Olivia, Colin, Archer and Luka along with several nephews, nieces and cousins. Vernon was predeceased by his wife Ethel Hunt (Deveau), and his brother Joe Hunt.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Bayshore Home Care, the residents of 55 Smythe St and especially the Turnbull Nursing Home for their caring and compassion throughout the years and especially at the end.
Vernon is resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424). Where visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 13, from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Thursday September 14, at 11:00am from the Brenan’s Chapel with interment to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those unable to attend the Liturgy in person, it will be livestreamed via the funeral home website (www.BrenansFH.com).
For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Vernon may be made to SPCA Animal Rescue-Saint John, Diabetes Canada or a charity of the donor’s choice.
