Sylvia Kakegumick passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the young age of forty-seven, still with an abundance of vibrant life to live. She was born in Sioux Lookout, Ontario and was a member of Sandy Lake First Nation.
She was predeceased by her father William John, her brother Clayton, uncles and aunties: Albert, Percy, Elda, Nesse and Alice (great aunty) and her niece Daphne.
She is survived by her mother Esther, her daughter Josephine, granddaughter Aiyana, siblings Esther Jr., Wilma, Kelsey, William Jr., Clinton, Nathan, nieces and nephews Kyle, Joby, Chad, Dimitri, Everleigh, Storm, Clyde and Chloe, her best friend Robyn, with many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
Sylvia was kind, compassionate and humorous with a generous spirit. She had a strong passion for art and writing, varying from her unique paintings to her fascinating poetry and journalism. She would always greet you with a smile and a silly joke to make you laugh. With her warming heart, selfless acts and extraordinary talents, she has graced the lives of her family and friends. She was her mother and daughter’s best friend and she loved her granddaughter immensely, whom she called her “Little Lotus Flower”.
Her energetic love and memories will be cherished forever.
