Born December 26, 1937 in Brockville, Ontario, formally of Thedford, Ontario, passed away Friday, March 17, 2023 in Hamilton ON. Sonya was an only child, predeceased by her parents Delbert (Bert) and Leona (nee Brohman) Carswell. Survived by God- Daughter Rachel Keller- Krueger, God- Son Duane Mellett and her best friends Effie & Ray Keller and many Cousins. Raised in Brockville she attended Brockville schools, Collegiate, Vocational & Business College. After graduation she worked at Phillips Cables in Brockville, moved to Hamilton in early 1950’s moved to Cambridge to work for Angel Stone (Ariss Craft), In 1969 moved to Toronto to work as a legal secretary for McCarthy & McCarthy. Retired and moved back to Brockville to look after her parents and following that she moved to Strathroy /Thedford where she worked part time for the Pinery Provincial Park.
Sonya was a sports enthusiast, specifically baseball. She participated in Brockville Police Athletic Association softball program and played with the senior ladies league. Coached Little League in Scarborough, Coached & umpired senior ladies Softball in Toronto. She was a die-hard Blue Jays fan.
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her, many thanks to all the wonderful dedicated healthcare workers at Village of Wentworth Heights LTC, Hamilton, ON.
Private interment, Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland, Ontario. Donations to Heart & Stroke Foundation and Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
