Shirley’s Obituary
Shirley Vivian Palmer – 91 years young, Wentworth, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. Born in Wallace Station on May 20, 1932, Mom called West Wentworth home for 72 years. During and after raising her family of seven children, she worked as a waitress at the White Rose/Shell Restaurant, Clary’s Truckstop, Wentworth, Stanfield’s, Oxford and for ten years got up at 2 am to drive 130 km, 6 days a week to deliver the Chronicle Herald, no matter what the season or road conditions. Mom loved all her family but had a special sweet spot for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved and was proud of each and every one of them. She loved to read and would devour any and all books that came her way. Her love of bingo took her to many bingo halls where she loved to complain, just a little, if she didn’t win. She will be sadly missed by her closest companion, Sweetpea, her cat. They shared a special bond. Mom’s determination and independence kept her in her own home until the last day. Something she would be very proud of. Survived by daughters, Sandra Mayne (Al Pearl); Laurel Adams; JoAnne (Timmy) Craib; son, Jimmie (Barb) Palmer; daughter in law, Sheila Williams; chosen son, Earl Gilbert; grandchildren, Lyndsey (Jon) Hurley; Lacey Palmer (Trevor Ellis); Lyssa Palmer (Skyler Gerrior); William Adams; Ashlee (Tim) Myers; Stuart Palmer; Jessica Palmer; great grandchildren, Beau Hurley; Ronnie-Lynn Hurley; Ryder Adams; Skyla-Marie Gerrior; Colton Myers; Avery Myers; brother, James Keiver. Predeceased by daughters, Cindy Palmer and Leah Palmer; son, Ronnie Palmer; son in law, Stephen Adams; parents; Lamert and Annie Keiver; brothers, Donald and Raymond Keiver; sister, Verna Colborne-Giles. As per Shirley’s wishes, there will not be a formal funeral service. A drop in celebration of Shirley’s life is planned for Sunday, June 4, 2023, 1-3 p.m. at the Wentworth Recreation Centre, 13752 Highway 4, Wentworth, N.S. A light lunch will be provided. Everyone welcome. Family flowers only. If you wish, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the IWK Hospital, Halifax or Marilyn & Friends Spay/Neuter Program.
