Obituary
Shirley Carol (Garland) Silliphant has gone to her heavenly home. She is survived by her husband of almost 64 years, John William Silliphant and her daughter Candace, son-in-law Ian Hamilton, son Jeffrey William and daughter-in-law Tammy Silliphant and sister-in-law Maxine Browne. Several beloved nieces and nephews and their spouses; Rhonda, Bill, Susan, Lynn, Greg, Chris, Scott, Kelly and Todd. Adored and cherished grandchildren and spouses; Natasha, John Kenneth, Joshua, Michael and the apples of her eye – two great granddaughters Mackenzie and Addison.
Shirley was predeceased by her sisters Stella Hall (Bill), Lillian Justason (Russell); brother Bill Garland; niece Janice; nephews Dougie and Jim; sister-in-law Sheila and brother-in-law Reginald.
Mom was a devout Christian. A fabulously kind, caring and fun-loving lady. In her early years, she loved living on Chesley Street where, as a young girl, she enjoyed family and friend gatherings in true Maritime style, with lots of music, dancing and laughter. At the age of 13, she and our dad began to date and remained together from then on, give or take a spat or two.
After marrying, she partnered with dad in many business ventures and in raising their family together. Living on the lower west side for the first couple of years, then off to a brand new house she was so proud of in Greendale and several years later to “escape out of the fog” and be closer to her mom and dad, they finished raising their little family in Grand Bay-Westfield. There, mom loved her vegetable garden, her many animals, cats and dogs and all the wildlife that visited her yard. Mom’s house was always clean, neat and smelled of home cooking and baking. She was so proud of her son, his athletics, which she followed as an avid fan, and his many accomplishments through the years and his beautiful family. She was very proud and happy for her daughter and her family and she loved them all equally.
In her later years, mom and dad travelled in the winter, first RVing with The Perfect Circle and finally settling down in a small quaint place they had in Florida near Orlando. She so loved when her family or friends visited: Friday night Bingo, The Red Hat Ladies and many a fish fry.
Our mother was feisty and strong. She fought a very long hard battle against dementia and now she would want everyone to know that her life was a blast and don’t be sad for her. She can’t wait until we are all ready to join her and her numerous family members and friends in heaven, because the music there is great and it’s time to kick back and celebrate all the love.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). A Graveside Service will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery (450 Lancaster Ave.) on Thursday, September 7th at 2 p.m.
